Welcome to Maidenhead Synagogue |
|

Maidenhead Synagogue is a vibrant and growing Jewish community,
which covers the whole of the Thames valley area, with members living
throughout Berkshire and Buckinghamshire as well as parts of Oxfordshire,
Surrey and Hampshire. Currently, it comprises nearly 800 households and has a
wide range of social, cultural, educational and religious activities.
There is a large Religion School and active youth
club. There are also special facilities such as a Kosher Shop, Judaica Shop and
Jewish Library. We are a member of the Movement for Reform Judaism, but welcome
Jews of all persuasions and opinions. A number of our members are in
mixed-faith marriages, and both they and their spouses are equally welcome.
We have a full-time rabbi, Rabbi Dr Jonathan
Romain, MBE, who is also a well-known writer and broadcaster. He is always
happy to meet members and help in any way. Members are kept in touch via a
monthly newsletter bursting with news and activities. Membership of the
Synagogue automatically includes burial rights, as well as insurance towards
costs of burial or cremation.
Among the congregation are people from overseas
working in the area on contracts, as well as families who have settled in the
UK, especially those from the USA, Canada and South Africa.

Maidenhead is situated 25 miles west of London and
has easy access to large parts of the country, served by both the M4 and the
M40, as well as being within 15 minutes of the M25. Heathrow Airport can be
reached in 20 minutes and Gatwick in an hour. Maidenhead is on a direct railway
line to Paddington, a journey of 35 minutes. The area is at the heart of the
computer industry.
At the same time it is in a very peaceful part of
the country, close to open fields and farmlands. There are many lovely and
interesting places nearby, including Windsor, Henley-on-Thames and Ascot.
